Role:

Well, hello! We’d like to welcome you to this job description. We hope you find it inviting and intriguing and a little bit like trying on a well-tailored new jacket (Oooh…it’s got pockets!).

Is this opportunity the right fit for you? Let’s find out. Let’s say you like to make things. You have big ideas and also pay attention to small details. You thrive in team collaboration and also cranking through deep work alone when needed.

Maybe you also like snacks. And flexibility. And you don’t mind the color orange. Sound like you? Let’s keep going.

Who are we:

We’re Mostly Serious, a full-service digital agency producing award-winning, community-enhancing, national-brand-showcasing, best-in-the-region strategy, research, websites, and digital marketing campaigns.

At a more fundamental level, we’re a team of critical thinkers who are obsessed with producing great work. Work that makes people feel differently about how beautiful and functional websites can be. Work that helps our clients serve their communities, tell their stories, and achieve their goals. And work that pushes us to challenge ourselves, refine our skills, and get better each and every day.

What are we looking for:

At the risk of being vague, but in the interest of being open to possibilities: Applicants might have different combinations of skills and levels of experience and still be a good fit for our growing team. If your professional happy place is somewhere in this trifecta, we’d like to hear from you:

  • Web Design (UX/UI)
  • Conceptual thinking
  • Brand development

If you’re early in your career as a designer, ready to learn new things and challenge yourself, we’d love to hear from you. If you have more agency experience and are comfortable leading projects, we’d love to hear from you too.

Being an equal opportunity, open-minded, and inclusive employer feels like a given. We want to take this commitment beyond words and intentionally seek applicants from all gender identities, racial and ethnic minorities, and LGBTQ+ folks, with the goal of building a more diverse and inclusive team. We want to actively build a team that includes perspectives, experiences, and voices that are traditionally underrepresented and underserved. We know this will lead to better work, a stronger team, and it’s also just about damn time we did our part to be the change we’d like to see.

How do you know this job is right for you:

You'll feel kismet-level alignment with this job if any of the following apply to you:

  • You’ve got standout design chops, and a portfolio of work with both beauty and brains.
  • You live on the edge of current design trends and patterns.
  • You already feel comfortable wearing one or more of these hats: (1) Web design; (2) Brand design, identity, and conceptual design; (3) Commercial graphic design, layout, and art direction
  • You like thinking critically and figuring out how to solve a complicated problem.
  • You’re a great verbal and written communicator, and comfortable explaining your ideas, process, and decisions to clients and collaborators.
  • You’re capable of working on multiple projects at the same time without sacrificing attention to the small stuff.
  • You like the challenge of learning new things and improving your skills.

What about the logistical stuff? (We're talkin' benefits + perks.)

We pride ourselves on providing our team members with the region’s best working environment, and we spend an actual ton of time and resources continuing to develop our benefits packages and office space.

The benefits of working for Mostly Serious include:

  • Health insurance
  • A matching IRA program
  • Opportunities to participate in an employee bonus pool
  • A (truly) flexible time-off and vacation policy
  • Choose what works for you: In our beautiful, dog-friendly Galloway Trail-adjacent offices, from your home, or from faraway lands. (Note: We’ve been WFH since March, and this will continue as long as that’s the safest bet for our team.)

Ready to apply? Great!

We just need a couple of things from you.
Send the following application materials to our Creative Director, Jessica Spencer ([email protected])

  • A PDF resumé with cover letter
  • A PDF portfolio of your best work, or a link to your portfolio website

We can't wait to see your stuff.
