With a belief that they can help the world to be more open, resilient and optimistic, they work with clients their trust and admire across various industries, such as Getty, Nike, and The New York Times. Our Operations team sets the logistical standards and structures for our day-to-day, supporting their team and the business’ success. They believe that our team should be able to do great work and live great lives, and we take pride in our role in serving that.

As the Operations Specialist, you are the lead on the ground in New York across day-to-day priorities and programs. You feed into the global operations strategy and methodology, ensuring it is implemented locally. With an eye for detail and a strong business acumen, the Operations Specialist owns the ecosystem that supports our New York team’s experience — hybrid and remote, on and offline. Success in this position will be achieved through proactive planning, creative thinking, and effective management.

Who they’re looking for
Area17 has found the following capabilities to be crucial to success on our Operations team. If these resonate with you, and you are looking for an opportunity to grow, we encourage you to apply:

  • Communication. You are a thoughtful communicator, in writing and conversation, and believe building relationships with the people around you is important.
  • Organization. You take pride in a detail-oriented and thorough administration of your work and believe that building processes maximize efficiency.
  • Adaptability. You are a producer through and through. You love to make material things happen and create utility for others. You also understand the complexity and pace of our environment and can roll with changes while staying on time and on budget.
  • Innovation. You understand that design and technology are essential to the modern world. You are curious about digital tools and are eager to manage and optimize the software we use to help our team thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the rest of the Operations team and Leadership to provide an optimal experience for our employees, candidates, and guests, the Operations Specialist’s responsibilities fall within the core pillars of our Operations methodology — Team experience, Business operations, and Talent & growth. See below for more detail on the position and examples of activities within:

Team experience

  • They see the future of work as an inclusive, inspiring and connected work experience that serves and promotes diverse needs, interests and talent through its culture. With a hybrid and remote team, you are responsible for ensuring this vision comes to life for our team, wherever they are.

Examples of responsibilities:

  • Serve as the New York team’s concierge, anticipating and supporting our team's needs daily (eg. travel bookings, client lunches, local recommendations)
  • Build and optimize the system that keeps our studio running, creating reference guides for the team to use along the way
  • Manage our studio operations, coordinating vendors for routine maintenance and repairs, IT, cleaners, trash collection, etc.
  • Produce our ongoing programming at AREA 17 from content creation (e.g. guest speakers, project share-backs, trainings) to scheduling (eg. monthly “Gather&”, weekly “Sho sho”), in collaboration with our Paris operations team

Talent & growth

  • You ensure our talent is set up for success — whether candidates, new joiners, current employees or our talent community of freelancers. With a desire to support people’s professional enrichment, you are always representing AREA 17 and our values.

Examples of responsibilities:

  • Lead hiring process internally, collaborating with the Operations Director, to move candidates through the process for final review and decision by Leadership

  • Manage ongoing Talent Community of freelancers, including outreach, engagement and logistics (eg. contract negotiations, onboarding, invoice tracking)
  • Lead onboarding for new joiners, including a well-organized onboarding kit and documentation to guide them and provide clear expectations for their experience and professional development ahead
