We are looking for a Senior Brand Designer to join the GitHub Brand Studio. In this role, you will be responsible for refining and evolving the GitHub brand and its sub-brands, maintaining a high standard of craft, and using visual storytelling to create strong connections with audiences. You’ll be working as a senior individual contributor, creating world-class designs while collaborating with other creatives on the team and contributing to our brand direction as a whole. You understand that the best work requires more than just design skills; you’re willing to jump into collaborating closely with various team members. Collaboration is key to GitHub’s success, and you will work closely with other designers, project managers, engineers, and marketing stakeholders to propose design solutions and ensure a successful outcome.

Responsibilities

  • Senior Brand Designers at GitHub are expert individual contributors; they are given a lot of autonomy and trust to work on our most impactful projects. For this specific role, we're looking for someone to do the following:
  • Partner with the Director of Brand Studio to execute on a shared vision for the future of GitHub’s brand and visual strategy.
  • Collaborate with Brand Studio, cross-functional Hubbers, and our other design teams to drive refinements and improvements to GitHub’s core brand identity.
  • Drive the development of new sub-brands where needed, delivering highly dynamic and compelling brand systems that build awareness for GitHub among their target audiences.
  • Develop and present design concepts to stakeholders and gather feedback to improve your work.
  • Identify, advocate for, and own design-driven projects and initiatives that have cross-team impact.
  • Provide regular, direct, and impactful feedback in design reviews with your teammates to ensure high-quality execution and continuously elevate the team’s design output.
  • Use, contribute to, and evolve GitHub's design system and brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all brand touchpoints.
  • Systems thinking: Apply decisions holistically, ensuring new patterns fit into the larger system of the brand, design system, and product, while supporting experiences for individual features.
  • Inclusive design: GitHub is a home for all developers, and our brand should reflect that. This means including and learning from people with a wide range of perspectives. Designing for inclusivity first can lead us to solve problems for many and open up our product to more people.
  • Creating together: Getting to the right result is our focus. This can come from designers or engineers—and ideally everyone. Facilitating collaboration between teams and individuals is key to continuity across all touchpoints, consistency within our design system, and a clear vision and perspective that resonates with the needs of our customers.
  • Progress and impact: Our team often works on the meta, so it's easy to get caught up in the design details. We have to be mindful of this and ensure we keep making decisions and moving forward. This means being solutions-oriented and prioritizing progress over correctness when it's the right call, but never sacrificing quality.
  • Candidness: We encourage candidness and recognize its role in building trust between managers and reports, and with peers and leadership. It can take time and effort to get there, but it's worth it. Making decisions for projects, design patterns, and processes will yield better results when we can engage in open and honest discussions.
